What can I do?
Volunteers are instrumental in the management of the woodland. Volunteer tasks include planting trees, laying hedgerow, and critically, picking up litter. Litter on the Common is costly to control, especially in the areas along Petersham Road and Star and Garter Hill. Join one of our Litter Picks to help us manage this issue, or if you have your own ideas of how you could to contribute to the conservation of Petersham Common Woods, or to us at Petersham Common Conservators, please reach out today.
The Good Gym volunteers Duke of Edinburgh Awards Ibstock School
In the past, we have been helped by the Ham and Petersham Association, The Environment Trust of Richmond upon Thames, The Petersham and Ham Sea Scouts (Beaver Troops), Trust for Conservation Volunteers, Russell Primary School, and Duke of Edinburgh volunteers from Bradfield College and St. George’s School. The Good Gym, Richmond, helped control litter and invasive plants, and we've been joined by a group of young men from Ibstock School completing their Duke of Edinburgh Award volunteer hours.
MONTHLY "VOLUNTEER DAY"
We have initiated a volunteer day to encourage people from our local community and surrounding area to take part in helping us to manage the Common. A volunteer day will be on the 2nd Wednesday of every month with a start time of 10am. If you would like to volunteer, please contact us at least 48 hours in advance at petersham1902@gmail.com and we will arrange a meeting spot. No experience is necessary (under 18’s require parental supervision). We will guide you through tasks providing appropriate training and tools. Activities will include planting (bulbs and saplings), coppicing / pruning, litter picking, maintaining sustainable drainage systems, opening vistas. We look forward to meeting you.
